Found out my $45 desk top was actually 2 glued pieces of scrap plywood

I was sanding down my thrift store desk last weekend and the grain just looked off. Took a closer look and the whole thing is two sheets of 3/4 inch plywood glued face to face, like someone was too cheap to buy proper thickness. Worse part is I checked the underside and there are stapled on particle board strips hiding the seam. That explains why my monitor arm kept wobbling even after I tightened everything. I got the desk for $45 at a Habitat ReStore in Akron so I cant complain too much, but now I have to rebuild the top anyway. Anyone else ever peel back a cheap desk top and find something sketchy underneath?
