Dropped by IKEA and saw how they do their desk corners
I was at IKEA in Emeryville last weekend grabbing some shelves and walked past their display desk section. It hit me that ALL their budget desks have those rounded front corners instead of sharp 90 degree ones. I always thought it was just a style choice but after resting my wrists on them I get it now. That little curve makes a HUGE difference when you're typing for hours. Has anyone else tried cutting a 45 degree bevel on a standard butcher block countertop to fake that same feel?

Huh, I gotta disagree a bit here Jessec. I've actually been using a butcher block desk I chopped down myself for like two years now with a 45 bevel and its been fine. The key is hitting it with some sandpaper after you cut it to knock off that sharp edge so it blends into a soft roundover by hand. I think the IKEA ones are nice but honestly a sanded bevel feels pretty similar once you rough it up a little, just takes five minutes longer. Not saying yours is wrong, just that a sharp 45 isn't the only option if you bother to finish it right.

The 45 degree bevel on a butcher block is actually a different feel than IKEA's rounded edges. Those rounds are designed so your wrists rest naturally, while a sharp bevel still has a hard line that can dig in after a few hours. Just something to consider before you break out the router.
