Took my dad's advice about thermal paste application and it backfired hard
My dad told me to spread it like butter on toast, so I did a thick even layer on my PS5 APU and now my temps are 10 degrees higher than stock. Has anyone else gotten bad thermal paste advice from an older relative?

Wait, so he literally told you to spread it like butter on toast? Like a thick, even layer that covers every single little nook and cranny? I mean, with thermal paste, less is more. You're basically using it to fill the tiny microscopic gaps between the chip and the heatsink, not to create a whole new layer of something. That extra goop is just acting as an insulator now, trapping all that heat right where you don't want it. Did your dad actually build his own PC or is he just giving advice based on how he spreads mayonnaise on his sandwich?

Did you see that Gamers Nexus video where they tested this and found the pea method works way better than spreading it?
