Pro tip: Stop using thermal paste too thick

I used to put a big pea-sized blob of thermal paste on every CPU I worked on. Then last month I had a PS4 Pro crash from overheating and when I opened it, the paste had spread all over the motherboard pins. Now I just do a thin spread with a plastic card, like buttering toast. Has anyone else killed a console from too much paste?
