My PS5 fan got loud after 3 months, thermal paste was bone dry

I swapped the shell on my PS5 back in March, went with a clear purple panel. Looked awesome for about 3 months, then the fan started sounding like a jet engine during any game. Opened it up on Tuesday and the heatsink was covered in dust, but the real kicker was the thermal paste, it had turned into this chalky gray powder. I pulled the whole cooling assembly apart, cleaned everything with 99% isopropyl, and repasted with some Arctic MX-4 I had left over from my Switch mod. Cost me maybe $8 and 40 minutes of work, but the difference is ridiculous, it went from roaring to basically silent. Anyone else find that factory paste jobs on newer consoles are just weak, or did I get a bad unit?

Eight bucks and forty minutes is cheaper than the therapy I needed last time I opened any of my consoles and realized I had zero idea what I was doing. I once repasted a launch PS4 with toothpaste because I was out of the real stuff, and it actually worked for like two weeks before the fan gave up entirely. So yeah, factory paste on the new stuff seems hit or miss, but honestly my track record says I'm the weak link in that equation.
