I finally trashed my expensive soldering station after a cheap iron saved my weekend
Dropped $300 on a Hakko station 2 years ago and last Saturday it straight up died mid-job on a Switch OLED mod. My $25 backup iron from Amazon actually finished the joint cleaner than the Hakko ever did lol - anyone else downgrade and get better results?

Funny how that works, isn't it? Kinda makes you wonder if all the fancy features on those expensive stations are just marketing fluff. Did the Hakko give you any warning signs before it died, or did it just crap out completely? I've heard some people say the temp control on those can drift over time even when they still turn on.
