Bricked my PS5 shell swap with a cheap heat gun
I had this cool transparent shell kit for my PS5 sitting around for a month. Bought a $20 heat gun off Amazon to soften the stock shell clips. Did the rear panel fine but hit the front glossy strip with the heat too long and warped it. Now I'm stuck with a half finished looking console and a $50 lesson on buying better tools. Anyone here try the iFixit heat gun or should I just stick to a hair dryer next time?

Ouch, that "half finished looking console" is brutal... I feel your pain, I did almost the same thing with a cheap heat gun trying to mod my controller shell and ended up with melted thumbsticks.

Hair dryers don't get hot enough for this kind of work, they're meant for hair not plastic mods. You'd just end up frustrated with a hair dryer too, better to invest in a proper variable temp heat gun that actually shows the numbers.
