A random comment on my Xbox vent mod saved me $60
I was putting a vented top panel on my Series X and had the fan running full speed. Someone on the forum said 'you're pulling air the wrong way through the heatsink.' Turns out I had the fan flipped. Tested it with a piece of paper and they were dead right. Now my temps dropped 8 degrees. Anyone else make this simple mistake and feel dumb after?

Yeah @tessa368 makes a solid point too, the stock fan direction is usually set up so the whole case works as one system and flipping it can mess with that balance. I've seen builds where the paper trick actually showed worse temps after a few hours of gaming because the hot air just pooled up inside different spots.

Actually I kind of disagree that flipping the fan is always the fix. Most aftermarket vented panels are designed to work with the stock fan direction, and some of them actually rely on that specific airflow path for optimal cooling. A lot of people online swear by the paper test but I've seen cases where flipping the fan just moves hot air around the case instead of actually exhausting it out.
