Warning: I booked a 'nomad-friendly' apartment in Medellin last month and the internet was a joke. 2 Mbps on a good day.

Yeah that's the gamble with those listings. They slap "nomad-friendly" on anything with a wifi password now. I mean, my friend got burned in Lisbon with the same thing, a photo of someone working on a laptop but the connection couldn't even load a basic webpage. It's just a buzzword they know will sell.

What gets me is they never show the router. A real work space would have a photo of the actual modem setup, not just a stock image of a smiling person with a MacBook. I stayed in a place in Mexico that advertised fiber internet, but the router was from 2008 tucked behind a bookshelf. You need to ask for a speed test screenshot before booking, it's the only way to know.

Did you ask them to run a speed test during the actual booking process? I had a buddy who fell for the same thing in Bali last year. He booked this "digital nomad paradise" place with photos of a fancy co-working setup. The internet was so bad he had to use his phone's hotspot just to send emails. The worst part was the router was literally in the bathroom behind the toilet. He ended up moving to a hostel down the street that had a proper ethernet cable in the room.
