That barista in Medellin got me thinking about my work setup

I was working out of a coffee shop in Medellin last week, and the barista asked why I kept moving my laptop between tables looking for better light. He showed me his system, he just uses a clip-on monitor light and works from any seat with his back to the window. Has anyone else tried one of those portable lights to fix bad lighting in cafes or hostels?

Just my luck, I’d probably clip that light right into my coffee.

Hold on a second, I actually kind of dig these hanging lights. The way they dangle down low makes a room feel all cozy and tucked in, not like a boring old office. You might whack your head once or twice, sure, but that little risk is kind of the point, right? I think they add way more character than a standard ceiling fixture ever could, even with the occasional coffee incident.
