Talking to a guy in Medellin made me question my whole setup
I was at a coworking spot in Medellin last week, and this guy who's been nomading for 8 years told me he uses a cheap Android tablet and a folding bluetooth keyboard. Said he stopped caring about having a fast laptop because he spends 70% of his time in cafes just writing and checking email. It hit different because I just spent $1,200 on a new ultrabook and now I'm wondering if I overdid it. Anyone else downsize their gear and regret it or love it?

nah im the opposite tbh. i tried the cheap tablet setup for a few months in thailand and hated it. having a slow device just stressed me out more. i do video calls and light design work so an underpowered tablet was a constant lag fest. my 13 inch thinkpad was worth every penny for the portability and speed. maybe that guy found his flow but i need my tools to not hold me back.

Right because nothing says "digital nomad enlightenment" like typing on a keyboard the size of a postage stamp while hunched over a tablet in a loud cafe. I bet that guy also tells people he "lives in the moment" while his battery dies at 30 percent. You spent twelve hundred bucks on a machine that actually works, and he's out here pretending slow and laggy is some kind of life hack. If I paid for coworking space, I'd want gear that doesn't make me feel like I'm back in 2012 watching videos buffer. Your ultrabook will still be running when his folding keyboard snaps in half again.
