Remember when hostels had actual landline phones in the hallways?

I swear every digital nomad I met back in 2015 had to wait their turn for a 20-minute call home on a dented rotary phone, and now I watch people facetime their cats from a beach in Bali without even thinking about it, has anyone else noticed how the whole vibe shifted once reliable wifi showed up everywhere?

Wait isn't that more about how we travel now vs then? lol. The real hack here is to book hostels with coworking spaces built in, then you don't even need to rely on sketchy cafe wifi. I learned the hard way after one trip where I spent half my time hunting for a socket and a signal. Honestly, if you're gonna digital nomad it, just pay the extra couple bucks for a place that advertises fiber or business class internet. Saves your sanity and lets you skip the whole hallway phone nostalgia trap.

Booked a place in Medellin once that advertised "high speed internet" and turns out they meant 5mbps shared between like 20 rooms. Ended up working from a mall food court for three days straight. The coworking hostel thing is legit though, especially if they've got decent chairs. My back still hurts just thinking about that trip.

I mean, that rotary phone was kinda charming though, way more real than some fake digital nomad flex.
