PSA: The visa run advice for Thailand is getting people in trouble

I keep seeing posts telling new nomads to just do a border hop every 60 days, but immigration in Chiang Mai is now denying re-entry if they think you're living here on tourist stamps. A friend got turned away last week after his third run this year. What's your backup plan if your visa run fails?

My backup plan is basically a sad hotel room in Laos while I figure it out. I should have looked into that education visa months ago. Now I'm just hoping my luck holds until my next flight.

Wait, they turned him away on his third run this year? That's crazy... I figured you could at least get four or five before they said anything. It really is getting strict.
