My laptop charger blew an adapter in a Bangkok hostel last Tuesday
I was trying to get a project out before a 5 PM deadline and my charger sparked and smoked after plugging it into a local outlet. I had to run to a mall called MBK Center and spent 2,500 baht on a new universal charger, which set me back half a day. Has anyone else had a close call with power adapters in Southeast Asia and found a reliable brand?

Honestly, why do we even trust those cheap universal chargers? They're just a bunch of parts in a plastic shell, and you never know what's inside. I'd rather hunt down an official brand replacement, even if it takes longer.

Well, I've used generic chargers for years without a single issue.

My cousin’s cheap charger fried his laptop port last month. The repair cost more than a real charger would have.
