My Chiang Mai co-working desk collapse taught me a hard lesson about backups

Yesterday I was typing away at a cafe near Nimman when the whole table gave out and my laptop hit the tile, killing the hard drive mid-save for a client deliverable due in 4 hours. I spent the next 3 hours rebuilding the deck from a cloud backup I luckily set up last month, but I lost all my local notes and photos from the week. Has anyone else had a physical gear failure in a remote spot, and what is your go-to backup setup for travel?
