Got my gear stolen in Medellin and everyone said get a VPN, but honestly?

My whole work bag got lifted from a cafe in El Poblado last month, laptop and all. Every single post here said the first thing to do was set up a VPN on a new device. I did it, but after dealing with the police report and local SIM card mess, the VPN felt like the least of my problems. It didn't stop the theft or help me get my stuff back. What's a better first step after something like that happens?

Yo @tessa_hart18 same thing happened to me when I lost my phone in Bogota, all my work files were gone and I was stressing hard. Remote wipe and freezing your credit is way more urgent than a VPN honestly, that stuff helps with online security later but not with someone grabbing your bag. I'd say lock down your accounts and hit up the bank first, the VPN can wait until you're settled with a new device.

What did you actually lose on the laptop?

Remote wipe the laptop first, for sure. A VPN doesn't help with physical theft. Then freeze your credit lines.
