A hostel booking in Bangkok made me ditch my spreadsheet system

I used to plan every city 3 weeks ahead with color coded tabs and backup hostels for every night. Last month a traveler in Bangkok told me I was basically running a remote office instead of living the nomad life. She said, 'you're not flexible, you're just doing a job with a view.' That hit me hard, so I canceled my next two bookings and now I only plan 3 days out max. Has anyone else found their planning actually killed the spontaneity that made them go nomad in the first place?

Is it just me, or does everyone end up doing this with stuff they actually enjoy? I mean, I see it with hobbies all the time too. People turn their hiking trips into a gear checklist, or their cooking into a meal prep spreadsheet, and at some point they're just checking boxes instead of actually being in the moment. It's like we're so scared of missing out on something better that we forget why we started in the first place. Your Bangkok lady was right, sometimes the best stuff happens when you have no clue what's next.
