My email backup plan failed right when I needed it last Thursday
Three years ago I set up a simple rule: every Sunday night I forward important emails to a separate account I made just for backups. Last week my laptop died and I went to pull up a contract I needed for a job application, but the backup account was full and had stopped accepting mail way back in March. Has anyone else had a backup system quietly break like this, and what do you use now that actually sends you a warning when something stops working?

Did you ever put a test email in there to check the flow? I read somewhere that most people never actually test their disaster plans until it's too late, kind of like smoke detectors. The trick that works for me now is a simple script that pings the backup account every few days and sends a text if the email bounces back.
