I laughed at people using the Forest app until my screen time hit 9 hours a day

Last month I checked my iPhone screen time and nearly choked - 9 hours and 20 minutes average. I always thought those focus timer apps were just gimmicks for people who can't control themselves. Downloaded Forest on a whim, set it for 25 minutes, and actually didn't touch my phone for the first time in weeks. Three weeks later my daily average dropped to 5 hours and I'm honestly mad it took me this long to try it. Has anyone else had a stupid simple app actually break a bad habit?

My Forest app says I've planted 47 trees but honestly my screen time only dropped by like an hour and a half. The app is fun and all but it didn't magically fix my bad habits. Half the time I just ignore the tree dying because I'm already deep in some rabbit hole. The real problem is I still pick up my phone for the same reasons - boredom, anxiety, avoiding stuff I don't want to do. A little digital tree dying doesn't change that. People act like these apps are some kind of cure but they're really just a bandaid on a much bigger issue with how we use our devices.

Did you notice a difference in how you feel mentally or just in the numbers?
