Hit 500 unread emails and just stared at the screen for 5 minutes

So I hit 500 unread emails last Tuesday and had this weird moment. Part of me said that's just life now, digital clutter is normal. The other part said that's a full time job I'm ignoring. Does hitting a round number like 500 or 1000 make it feel more real than like 473? I finally spent 2 hours deleting newsletters I signed up for in 2019 and felt lighter. Has anyone else had that shock of seeing a specific number and had to pick a side about it?

500 is just a NUMBER, it doesn't actually mean anything different than 499 or 501. I hit 623 once and just deleted the whole inbox without looking. Felt GREAT actually. You spent TWO HOURS cleaning up newsletters from 2019? That's kinda wild to me. Like yeah I get the urge to organize but those emails weren't hurting anyone sitting there. They don't have feelings. You could've just marked all as read in 3 seconds and moved on with your life. The real issue isn't the number on the screen, it's that you're letting a computer file control your mood. Just click "select all" and delete the whole thing next time.
