Heard a guy at the Verizon store say he had 14,000 unread emails, and it made me check my own
I was in line at the Verizon store on Saturday waiting to get my screen fixed when the guy next to me told the rep he had 14,000 unread emails and just wanted a new phone so he could start fresh. The rep laughed and said that was the third person that day who said the same thing. I stood there doing the math in my head and realized I was probably sitting on 2,000 or so myself, all junk newsletters and store coupons I never open. That night I went through and unsubscribed from 31 mailing lists, which took about 20 minutes, and then archived everything older than a year in one move. My inbox went from a number I was embarrassed to say out loud down to 12 actual messages that matter. The weird part is I felt lighter the next morning, like I had cleaned a room I had been walking past for years. If you have been putting off your inbox because it feels too big to deal with, just search for the word unsubscribe and start there. Has anyone else noticed a certain number where it finally stops feeling overwhelming?
