Email bankruptcy at 2,847 unread, now I filter everything

I used to let my inbox pile up until it hit 2,847 unread last March, then I just deleted the whole thing with a mass unsubscribe. What changed me was a client in Austin missing a deadline because my reply got buried under spam, costing me about $400. Now I run every newsletter through a separate Gmail label and check it once on Sunday, plus I set a 5-minute timer for quick replies during the day. Has anyone else done a full reset like that, or do you slowly chip away at the backlog?
