My sister's old sketchbook led to our first digital art collage

I found my sister's childhood sketchbook in the attic last week and got this idea to scan the pages and make a digital collage for her birthday. Using a free drawing app on my tablet, I layered her doodles with some family photos from when we were kids. It was tricky at first because I had to learn how to use layer masks and blending modes, but watching tutorials helped a lot. When I showed her the finished piece on my laptop, she got really quiet and then hugged me, saying it felt like our whole childhood in one image. We spent the next hour talking about the memories each drawing brought back, like the silly cats she always drew. Now she wants to learn digital art too, so we plan to work on more projects together. It's cool how something as simple as old sketches can bring us closer and spark a new hobby. I never thought digital art could be so personal until this happened.

Did you find any of your own old sketchbooks while digging around? I tried something similar with my nephew's drawings last year and it brought back so many memories!

My own attempts at digital art usually end up looking like a toddler got hold of the tablet. I tried to make a birthday card for my mom last year and spent three hours just figuring out how to undo mistakes. Your story makes me want to give it another shot, though, because that moment with your sister sounds really sweet. Maybe I'll dig out my old notebooks and see if I can manage something without causing a digital disaster.

Have you ever tried those old school how to draw books? I got one as a kid and my horse drawings always looked like weird giraffes with too many legs. The art teacher finally told me to just trace it, which felt like cheating but saved my grade.
