My first digital painting from 2019 vs my latest one this month

I dug up a painting I did back in 2019 of a dragon and it looked like a lumpy potato with wings compared to the one I just finished last week. The big change came when I started using a cheap drawing tablet with a screen instead of the old no-screen one I was fighting with for years. Has anyone else looked back at their old work and just laughed at how bad it was?

Think it's more about learning the tool than the skill improving that much.

Hold up, a no-screen tablet was your main tool? (I mean, I've heard people use them, but seriously?) That's like trying to paint with oven mitts on, no wonder the old dragon looked so lumpy.
