I was at a gallery opening in Austin and saw my own work printed huge for the first time

The colors looked totally different on that big wall than they did on my monitor. Anyone else have a go-to color profile for large format prints?

Color profiles, really? It seems like a lot of extra work for something that might just be the gallery lighting. @rowan972 makes a good point about soft proofing, but is the difference ever that bad? Most people looking at the big print won't have seen your monitor version anyway.

That's a classic monitor-to-wall shock! Soft proofing with your printer's specific ICC profile helps a ton before sending the final file. It saved me from some nasty surprises last year.

Honestly, it might not be that big a deal. I mean, most people are just gonna see the final print and not your screen. Maybe we stress about this stuff too much.
