Chose between a $200 drawing tablet and a $60 one, and the cheap one surprised me
I've been doing digital art for about 2 years now, mostly sketching characters on my iPad, but I wanted something with a screen-free feel so I grabbed a cheap $60 tablet from a local shop in Austin last month. My friend kept telling me to just drop $200 on a Wacom because the cheap ones have lag and bad pressure levels, but I figured I'd test it out first. Turns out the $60 one works fine for my style, I barely notice any lag, and the pressure sensitivity goes up to 2048 levels which is more than I need. I did have to mess with the drivers for like an hour to get it working right though. Anyone else here go cheap on their first screenless tablet and actually stick with it?
The whole "you need to spend big or it's garbage" thing is everywhere once you start noticing it, like with headphones or kitchen knives. Half the time the cheap version does 90% of the job and people just repeat what they heard. The hour of driver hell sounds about right though, that's the real tax lol.
