Warning: Letting my nephew help with a fuel line fix turned out great.
He was visiting and got curious about the diesel smell in my garage. I showed him how to secure a loose line on my old mower. Now he texts me mechanic questions from home.

But is it really that big a deal? Kids pick up random interests all the time. He'll probably be onto something new in a month, like gaming or whatever. A few texts about a mower doesn't mean he's suddenly a gearhead.

Your nephew texting mechanic questions is a huge surprise. I figured kids these days are all about screens, not engines. What got him so interested in the first place?

Actually, that screen time might be why he got interested! Lots of kids watch video tutorials about fixing things. The real surprise is when someone shows them how it works for real, not just on a phone. That hands-on moment can spark a genuine hobby.
