Update: Changed my mind about used injectors after hearing a guy at the parts counter

Overheard a fleet mechanic at the Freightliner dealer in Phoenix say he's pulled 300,000 miles out of junkyard injectors just by swapping the o-rings and testing them with a pop tester, so I'm gonna give my next set a shot instead of dropping $1,200 on new ones, has anyone else tried this with a common rail motor?

... and then he said three hundred thousand miles on junkyard parts? Honestly that blows my mind. Tbh I've always been scared of used injectors on common rails because of the whole tip erosion thing and how precise they gotta be. Ngl, I might have to try this now though, it's either that or sell a kidney for the Bosch ones.

Heard a story from a buddy who ran a set of takeoff injectors from a wrecked '06 Cummins in his '04. Got about 80k on them before one started acting up... but that's still pretty solid for a junkyard gamble. The tip erosion thing is real though, especially if you don't know the fuel and filtration history of the donor truck. Some people swear by pulling them from lower mileage wrecks or ones that got wrecked by an accident rather than a mechanical failure. Honestly, for $150 vs $1200 it's a risk I'd probably take if I had a spare weekend to swap them again if needed.
