Tried a $90 fuel injector cleaning kit and it gummed up my whole system in one afternoon.
Now I'm staring at a $2,800 rebuild bill because that chemical junk turned my injectors into glue sticks; anyone else get burned by those snake oil kits?

Bet that wasn't the kit's fault, sounds like your system was already full of gunk and the cleaner just shook it loose. Plenty of people run those things without issues, maybe your motor was just ready to go anyway.

See this is exactly like those "instant microwave meals" that claim to be healthy but are just salt bombs in disguise. People want the easy fix without doing the real work. @dakotacraig I get what you're saying about shaking loose old gunk, but why are we defending a product that literally turned fuel injectors into glue? That's not "shaking loose" that's chemically melting plastic. Its the same reason I don't trust those "30 second oil change" places. The whole market is flooded with cheap shortcuts that cause more damage than the problem you're trying to fix. If it sounds too good to be true it usually costs you thousands later.

Yo, that exact same thing happened to my buddy's Tacoma last year. He used one of those foaming injector cleaner kits and three weeks later the injectors were totally seized up. The shop that did his rebuild said the chemicals they use in those kits are way too aggressive for modern fuel systems and can actually dissolve the internal seals. Next time you go through this, just use a high quality name brand fuel system cleaner like Techron or Seafoam in the gas tank it's way gentler and won't melt anything inside. That rebuild hurts but at least now you know to stay far away from those aerosol can kits.
