Started using my IR gun on charge pipes instead of just feeling around, found a 40 degree gap at the intercooler boot
I used to just grab the boot after a pull and guess if it was leaking, which is dumb. Grabbed a cheap IR gun off the Mac truck for $60 and shot the cold side pipe versus the hot side pipe after a hard run, and the cold side read 40 degrees cooler right at the boot clamp. That much of a drop means air is escaping somewhere, so I pulled it and sure enough the clamp had chewed through the boot. Anyone else using temp readings to chase boost leaks or am I late to this?

That 40 degree drop at the boot clamp is a solid tell. I've been doing the same thing for about a year now, but I check both sides of the clamp, not just one spot. Last month I found a 25 degree difference on the cold side pipe about 3 inches from the coupler, which turned out to be a pinhole in the pipe itself, not the boot. What made you think the clamp was the issue versus the boot itself just being old and cracked? Also, was that 40 degree reading taken right after a hard pull or did you let it idle for a bit first?
