Spent 8 hours chasing a phantom misfire on a 6.7 Powerstroke that turned out to be a $5 fuel pressure sensor buried under the turbo.

Has anyone else had a sensor fail without throwing a code until you finally hooked up a scanner that could read live data?

What scanner were you using that finally caught it? I've seen that exact sensor cause a rough idle for weeks without tripping a check engine light. You really need a good scan tool that can graph the actual pressure reading against the desired value to spot those lazy sensors.

Man you are so right about needing a good graphing scanner. My old basic code reader never would have found it. I ended up using a friend's Autel unit that could live graph the fuel rail pressure. The sensor reading looked okay at a glance but it kept lagging behind the target by just enough to mess things up. Took forever to spot without watching the lines move. Those lazy sensors are the worst kind of problem.

72 psi at idle, @andrew854, and those lazy sensors drive me crazy too.
