Shop air compressor in Tulsa finally quit, forced me to learn something
Our old 80 gallon compressor threw a rod last Tuesday after 14 years of daily abuse. Before I could order a replacement, I had to run a couple of jobs off my buddy's portable unit. That little 20 gallon made me realize how much pressure drop we had in the hard lines all along. I checked the fittings and found two ball valves half choked and a filter that hadn't been swapped in who knows how long. Fixed those, and the new 60 gallon I picked up actually cycles less than the old one did. Anyone else ever found huge gains just by cleaning up old air lines instead of buying bigger equipment?

Most guys never think to check the lines when a compressor dies, they just go bigger. I had the same deal with a crimped hose and a clogged regulator, fixed it and got back more pressure than I knew I was losing. It's always worth a Saturday checking every fitting before you drop money on a bigger unit.
