Serious question, I was torquing head bolts on a 6.7 Powerstroke for three years before a buddy pointed out my mistake.

I always used the 'three-step' method from an old manual, adding a quarter turn at the end. Last week, he watched me and said, "You're still doing the turn-of-the-nut finish? That spec changed in 2018." I looked it up and he was right, the final torque angle is different now. I've probably done two dozen heads wrong. How many of you still use the old specs versus the updated ones?

Ever feel like the factory just changes the rules to mess with us? You get good at something for years, then find out you've been doing it wrong... classic. Guess that's why my toolbox is full of outdated manuals.

Happens to the best of us. Saw a guy snap a stud on a Duramax last year using an old spec. Those updates slip by. I keep a printed TSB in my box now for the common stuff. Check it every time I start a job. Saves the headache.

Man, @jesse_nguyen, that's EVERYWHERE now. It's not just torque specs. My new coffee maker has a totally different cleaning cycle than the old model, looks identical. You just can't trust that anything STAYS the same. Gotta check the rules every single time.
