Overheard a driver complaining about a rough idle on his 6.7 Powerstroke

He said it cleared up after a 40 mile highway run... made me think about how often we jump to injector issues before considering a good carbon clean-out. Anyone have a go-to method for forcing a regen on these when they're just doing short trips?

Reminds me of my neighbor's truck that would barely run. He was ready to sell it for scrap. Took it on one long trip and it's been fine for months now.

My buddy had an old farm truck that sat for years. It would cough and stall every time he tried to use it around the property. He finally drove it sixty miles to pick up some parts, groaning the whole way. After that trip, it smoothed right out and started on the first try every morning. Guess it just needed to clear its throat.
