I was torquing head bolts wrong for years because of a bad habit from my first shop

Honestly, I always did the final torque pass in one smooth pull, just like my old boss taught me at that shop in Dayton. Ngl, I found out last week on a 6.7 Powerstroke that I was losing about 15 foot-pounds because I wasn't letting the stretch bolts settle for a full minute between passes. A guy from the Ford dealer showed me his scan tool data and the difference was right there. Anyone else have a shop myth they had to unlearn the hard way?

On that 6.7 I got lazy and skipped the waiting step too. Cost me a gasket.

Ever check if that minute wait is in the actual service manual, or is it just dealer tech lore?
