I finally listened to the old guy at the parts counter about injector cleaner

This guy named Frank at the NAPA in Toledo always told me to run a bottle of Diesel Kleen through my truck every other fill-up. I thought it was just a waste of money for years. Then my 6.7 Powerstroke started getting a rough idle last winter, and after a $1200 quote for cleaning, I tried his advice. Three tanks with the cleaner later, and the idle smoothed right out. Anyone have a different brand they swear by for this?

Man, I feel that. It's so easy to brush off that advice until you're staring down a huge repair bill. Those old timers at the parts store have usually seen it all. Glad it worked out for you and saved you a ton of cash. I've had good luck with the Hot Shot's Secret stuff myself, but honestly, just using something regularly seems to be the real trick.

Those old guys are basically car wizards at this point.

Gotta remember those old timers learned the hard way before the internet. My grandpa could diagnose a misfire just by listening to the engine idle, no scanner needed. Tried to teach me how to feel the brake pedal for warped rotors instead of guessing. Half the time the new parts aren't even made right, they just know which brands to avoid because they've seen them fail fifty times. It's almost like they got a mental database of all the common failures that modern engineers pretend don't exist.
