Everyone swears by the new synthetic oils but I had a 6.7 Powerstroke run cleaner on conventional for 80k miles.
The owner insisted on sticking with Rotella T4 and his oil analysis came back perfect every time, no extra wear metals. Has anyone else seen a modern engine do just fine without the fancy stuff?

My old 12 valve Cummins went 300k on cheap store brand diesel oil and never had a problem. The oil change intervals matter way more than the marketing on the bottle. People get talked into spending double for no real gain. If the analysis is clean, you're doing it right.

The real test is how those cheap oils handle modern diesel emissions systems and regens. My buddy's DPF clogged way faster on a bargain oil that couldn't handle the soot.
