Broke down between buying a used Snap-On scanner or a cheaper generic one for a 6.7 Powerstroke

I went with the cheap one to save $400 and now I can't read half the live data on my 2015 Ford and I'm wondering if anyone else has gone cheap on diagnostic tools and ended up paying more later?

Cheap scanners are a gamble with these newer trucks for sure. You really need the bidirectional control and live data for the 6.7 to chase down emissions problems. Might be worth seeing if you can flip that cheap one on craigslist and put the cash toward a used Snap-On, it pays for itself the first time you actually fix something instead of guessing.

Honestly, I went the cheap route and now my scanner gives me more guesses than answers, feels like I'm playing diagnostic roulette with a $600 repair bill.
