Blew a coolant hose on I-75 last Tuesday and lost 4 hours of drive time

Was hauling a load of lumber from Atlanta to Macon when that lower rad hose split at the crimp, has anyone else had trouble with Gates hoses failing on newer Cummins engines?

I saw a thread on one of the trucking forums a few months back where a guy with a '22 Cummins had the exact same thing happen to him with a Gates hose. He said it was a known issue with the lower rad hoses from that batch, something about the crimp not being tight enough from the factory. I mean, I've always run Gates on my old 5.9 and never had a problem, but maybe they changed something recently. He ended up swapping to a Dayco hose and said it's been fine for 20k miles since. Could be worth checking the date code on that hose if you still have it.

Funny you mention it, seems like stuff just isn't made to last the way it used to across the board. My old man's got a '98 Ford he rebuilt the whole cooling system on with Gates hoses and they're still soft and holding strong, but the new ones I see on trucks at work seem to crack or split way sooner. Feels like makers are cutting corners everywhere these days, not just on hoses.

... wait, wait, wait... a '22 Cummins? That's basically brand new. I can't believe a hose that new would already be failing, especially from Gates. My uncle ran Gates on his old Ford for like fifteen years without a single issue. That's wild to me that a hose on a 2022 truck might have a bad crimp from the factory. Makes you wonder if they're rushing everything out the door these days just to keep up with demand.
