A simple step with used oil that too many shops skip
I was at a job site last month and noticed used oil drums were just left open. This is a big issue because rain can get in and cause leaks. I had a case where a small leak led to a big cleanup job that cost thousands. Not only that, but it can poison groundwater and hurt wildlife. It's easy to fix: just make sure the lids are tight and store them under cover. Many places have rules about this, and ignoring them can lead to heavy fines. We all need to do our part to keep the environment clean. Take a minute to check your oil storage today; it's worth it.

Back in June, I forgot to seal a parts washer tank. Came back to a slick mess in the morning. My cleanup bill was almost as bad as my memory.

That cleanup cost you mentioned, was it just for the spill or did it include fines? I've heard of shops getting hit with violation notices from the county that stack up for every day the problem isn't fixed. Makes me wonder if anyone has ever been sued over groundwater contamination from something like this.
