A shift I'm seeing with the new techs coming into our shop in Boise

Last week a new hire asked me how to check the oil on a 6.7 Powerstroke, last month another couldn't identify a basic fuel filter housing, and 3 years ago that kind of basic knowledge was just expected on day one.

Tell me they at least know which end of a wrench to hold. Are we handing out shop jobs to people who think a diesel is just a loud Prius now? What's next, needing a YouTube tutorial to check tire pressure? Guess the days of hiring folks who grew up turning wrenches in the driveway are over.

Remember when @paige_ellis59 tried using a screwdriver as a pry bar?

Ever see someone try to use a butter knife as a flathead? Same energy. Watched a guy once try to hammer a nail with a pair of pliers. Handle snapped right off. Some people just see metal and think "good enough.
