A guy at the Freightliner dealer told me to check the VGT actuator before pulling the turbo, and he saved me a ton of work.
I had a 2016 Cascadia with a code for low boost and was sure the turbo was shot. This old timer in the parts line said, 'Bet you a coffee it's just the actuator arm stuck.' I pulled the actuator off the turbo housing, and sure enough, the arm was seized solid from soot. A new actuator and a basic relearn fixed it in under two hours. Anyone else run into this on the DD15s?

Man, that's wild. I've heard about those actuators going bad but never seen one fully seized up. Makes you wonder how many turbos got swapped for no reason, you know? Seems like a good first check now.

Yeah, that old timer earned his coffee for sure. I probably would have been the guy pulling the whole turbo, @john_singh. My first thought is always the biggest, most expensive part, not the little arm that just needs to move. It's a good lesson to check the simple, cheap stuff first, even if it feels too easy to be the real fix. Saved yourself a real headache and a big bill.
