Update: I stopped chasing every mixer event and started going to two regular ones
For about a year I figured networking meant showing up at every chamber mixer and breakfast in Metro Detroit, and I handed out maybe 300 cards with almost nothing to show for it. Then I was waiting in line at a coffee shop in Royal Oak and heard a guy say, "I quit collecting contacts and started collecting the same six people." That stuck with me. I dropped down to two groups, one in Troy and one downtown, and I see the same faces every few weeks, so people actually know what I do now. Curious if anyone else here has cut back on events on purpose, and how long it took before it paid off for you.
