That conversation with Bob from Livonia stuck with me
I ran into Bob at the Dearborn chamber breakfast last Tuesday. He told me he does all his real networking at 7am diners, not fancy events. Said he picked up three long term clients just by sitting at the same counter at the coney island on Michigan Ave. Made me think about where I've been wasting my time, you know? Anybody else get better leads from random breakfast spots than the proper mixers?

It's funny how the best connections seem to happen in the most random, low-pressure spots, like it's almost a rule of life that the forced networking events are where you get the least real traction.

Three months ago I drove past that same coney island on Michigan Ave every morning and never thought to stop in. Then Bob basically said the same thing to me at a chamber mixer where I got ZERO leads. Now I grab coffee and a gyro there twice a week. Last Tuesday I ended up chatting with a guy who runs a plumbing company and he just handed me his card on the spot. I used to think those fancy breakfast events and golf outings were where the real work happened. Bob from Livonia completely changed my mind on that.
