Remember when you had to actually call people to get a meeting?

Back in 2015, I was trying to connect with a few folks in the Corktown area for a project and kept hitting voicemail. On a whim, I looked up a local coffee shop they all seemed to mention online and just started going there every Tuesday morning. After about three weeks of just being a regular, I ended up having more real conversations and making better connections than I ever did with cold calls. It felt less like selling and more like just being part of the neighborhood. Does anyone still have a go-to spot in the city for running into people, or is it all LinkedIn now?

How many of those coffee shop meetings actually turned into something you could count on later? I had a similar thing going at a diner near my old apartment, but then the manager changed and the whole vibe shifted. It felt like the place lost its magic for bumping into the right people, and I never found another spot that worked quite the same. Now I mostly just feel tired seeing another LinkedIn message request.

Honestly, that "lost its magic" feeling means you need to find a new spot with a regular crowd.
