I compared two local networking groups and one was way more productive

I went to a Detroit Young Professionals mixer last month and then a small BizDev roundtable at the Detroit Public Library a week later. The Y thing had like 60 people but hardly any real conversations happened... just business card swapping. The library group had maybe 12 people and I walked away with three solid leads from actual 10 minute talks. Has anyone else noticed the bigger groups aren't worth the drive?

Got to a similar event last fall, a big chamber of commerce breakfast with maybe 80 people there. Honestly, I spent most of the time standing by the coffee station trying to remember names while people handed me cards I never looked at again. Tbh, the smaller Meetup group I found on a Tuesday night had maybe 8 people and I ended up trading actual ideas with a guy who runs a print shop. Ngl, it felt more like a real conversation than all that awkward small talk. Those big events just seem like a way to collect a pile of paper you gotta sort through later.

Disagree, the bigger groups give you way more chances to meet the right person fast.
