A guy at a Ferndale chamber mixer asked me 3 questions and I hated every one
I went to that chamber mixer over on Woodward in Ferndale about two months ago and ended up talking to this older guy who runs a print shop downtown. He asked what my shop does, who my best client is, and what I want out of the group, and I gave him the same 30 second speech I give everybody. He just nodded and said my pitch was all over the place and nobody there could tell what I actually wanted from them. It stung, but he was right, so I cut it down to one sentence and started saying out loud what I need instead of just talking about myself. Three weeks later I picked up a $1,200 job from a guy who heard me ask for referrals to property managers. Is a one line ask too pushy at these events, or am I late to figuring this out?
A one line ask is not pushy at all, it just saves everyone the guesswork about what you actually want from the room. Sounds like the $1,200 job already answered your question.
