A guy at the Colfax hardware store told me to ask for the back room at the DMV on 20th, and he was right
I was buying a new meter last Tuesday and the older fella at the counter overheard me complaining about the DMV line, so he leaned in and said the 20th Street office keeps a separate window for renewals only and the line moves way faster. I tried it the next morning and was out in 25 minutes instead of the usual two hours. Has anyone else gotten a tip like that from a stranger at a store that actually panned out?
That whole thing works because the old timers at those stores actually pay attention to what works (they hear the same gripes all day). The tip is only half of it though, because you still have to go early before the word spreads and that side window gets just as bad as the main line. Next time bring the guy a coffee or something, since those little favors are how the good info keeps flowing.
