Appreciation post: my old shop vac died mid basement demo and the $12 fix at the Denver hardware store saved the weekend

The switch burned out after about 4 years of abuse, so I popped the housing open and swapped in a new one from the counter on South Broadway for $12 instead of dropping $150 on a whole new unit. Has anyone else kept a shop vac alive way past its expected life with a cheap part like this?
