Spent 3 years buying expensive trash bags before I realized the generic store brand works just as well

I was stocking up on those heavy duty black bags at the hardware store for $12 a roll and it took my wife grabbing a pack of the store brand ones for $5 to make me compare them side by side and notice the thickness was nearly identical after testing them on a load of drywall scraps last week, has anyone else found a brand that holds up better than the others?

my buddy tom went through something similar with contractor bags actually. he swore by the name brand ones for years until he helped his dad clean out a garage and they used whatever cheap ones his dad had under the sink. tom was so mad when the cheap ones didn't leak or rip at all even with sharp metal pieces in them. he spent like half an hour trying to argue with his dad that the cheap ones were worse but his dad just laughed at him. now tom buys the generic ones too but he still acts like he's settling for something... drives me crazy.
